These drawings opened up a lot of thinking about migration and movement on the water. I was feeling a need to escape the city at the time and was going out to the beach to recharge and explore. This beach in particular was known for having a lot of seemingly random stuff layered on the shore over the years, including coconuts!
It was so strange to find coconuts on a beach in New York City and that started this train of thought wondering how they got there, like really, how did they get there? I was intrigued to learn that coconuts are self-seeding and waterproof, meaning they can travel great distances and grow again when washed ashore. This cyclical water migration makes it nearly impossible to pinpoint its origin. 🌀
